Day 4: CNET, Digg & Obama’s Speech

Friday, August 29th, 2008

Just when we thought our week could not get any better it did and totally blew us away. We woke up to find out we were featured on CNET News, which was a huge bonus! Then we hit up the Digg Townhall that was being taped live at The Big Tent. I had the chance to speak to Kevin Rose and Jay Adelson. It was pretty cool to speak to the guys behind Digg, the site that inspired us to build Fling it Girl. I told them about Fling it Girl, they thought it was cool and congratulated me on creating it.

After that our group was scrambling to score some tickets to the speech. Just a few hours before the speech we had tickets in our hand. We have some great friends to thank for making it happen! As you can imagine we were so excited to be attending Obama’s speech. It is hard to put into words what kind of a night it was…all Mr. FlingitGirl could say was WOW. All I can say is that it was an amazing experience and one I am very thankful I could be a part of.

DNC Day 3–Rage!

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

Day 3 of the DNC was AMAZING! The coolest event so far was the free show that Rage Against the Machine put on at the Denver Coliseum. Everyone who went is talking about how insanely sweet the show was. It truly was a great concert, the energy was overflowing as you can imagine. We were on the ground floor about 8 rows back before Rage came out, when they started with Bulls on Parade a huge mosh movement started and we were shoved up to the front row! See a video of my view. Check out Andrew Hyde’s photos from the event, the first two below are pulled from his photo set.

Right after the concert Rage, The Flobots and The Coup (bands that opened for Rage) led a peaceful protest in support of Iraq Veterans Against the War. To read up on the details check out MTV’s coverage.

Day 2 of the DNC

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

Tuesday was another eventful day here in Denver for the DNC. One of the highlights was a visit to the Big Tent, thanks to Mathew Gerson of eConscious Market. The Big Tent is the new media center that is being sponsored by Digg, Google and YouTube. It was overflowing with bloggers from around the world. Even with the free speech zones set up there are still some heavy duty protesting going on. My favorite protester is pictured below, he was very adamant about seeing change and bringing back Crystal Pepsi! Fling it Girl is trying to eye all the fashion here at the DNC, the outfit below won our Fashion Find award of the day!

DNC Hits Denver!

Sunday, August 24th, 2008

It is only Sunday and we have already had a memorable day here in Denver as the DNC festivities are under way. We are volunteering this week at the Electric Vehicle Rolling Showcase which is part of the Green Frontier Fest. Located at the New Energy Station at Champa and Speer you can learn about electric cars and even have a chance to ride in one. The event is being held by Nate Vanderschaaf a delegate who has a strong passion for environmental issues and feels electric vehicles are the only logical pathway to clean air, energy independence, and freedom from high gas prices.

Actress Daryl Hannah a longtime supporter of the eco movement was on hand today at the Green Frontier Fest. When she needed a ride back to her hotel team Fling it Girl was at the right place at the right time and had the opportunity to drive her there in the RAV4 EV. We picked up Daryl and her publicist in a back entrance to an undisclosed building (I actually have no idea what building it was). She jumped in with a coconut shell filled with ice cold coconut milk and sipped it as she talked to us just like anyone else would. For the short time we spent together she came off as sweet, laid-back, and real. When I had my picture taken with her I mentioned this blog and she said she has a blog too called dh love life. It was really cool to meet her and awesome to see a celebrity who is passionate about making a difference.

What a fun and eventful day! I can’t wait to see what the rest of the week has in store. Team Fling it Girl will be out and about to bring you as much footage as we can. Follow us throughout the week by checking out our twitter stream.
