I come home in the morning with a DS Lite
Thank you Nintendo my life is tight!
Oh yes dear we’re the fortunate ones
Tech Girls they want to have fun
Oh Tech Girls just want to have fun

I may be biased but I have to say the Boulder/Denver area has some stellar Tech Women! The women showed up this weekend as Gwen Bell hosted some rock star events. Friday night was the Nintendo DS Lite party that was held at a sweet loft space in Denver called The Strategy Loft. It was awesome kicking it with tech girls while we tested out some games, including my favorites Guitar Hero and Mario Kart. It was an amazing evening that even included me getting in a intense bubble-gum chewing contest with Beta Girl Sam Harms. The highlight was at the end of the evening when we all received a DS Lite! How is that for a party favor!?!? Saturday morning was the Big Event for BWET(Boulder Women Engaging Tech) where we heard two inspiring women, Tara Anderson of Lijit and Laura Mayes of Kirtsy, speak on there experience in the “Tech” world. The second part of the session was Glam Your Gadgets led by Aimee Oelke. It was a fun weekend to be a girl in tech! If you are a rock star tech girl in the area and want to get involved BWET meets at 7PM every Monday night at The Cup. See you there! Oh and if any of you girls want to meet up for a competition of Mario Kart–it’s ON!

The Shoppe

the-shoppe-denver1.png

Everyone recommended that we check out The Shoppe, Denver’s first boutique Pastry Cafe. It lived up to the hype with it’s sweet vibe and off the chain cupcakes. It is a great place to chill, they have free Wi-Fi or you can thumb through one of their art & design books, drink coffee, watch old-school cartoons + artsy flix, listen to live music, play board games, enjoy a nice cold bowl of cereal and tasty cupcake for lunch or at 2 A.M. They also have Cheetah Couriers Bike Messengers to make deliveries, very cool!

The Shoppe was started by Tran, co-owner of The Fabric Lab (which features handmade items crafted by local designers) and pastry chef Emma Skala owner of Emma Rose Cakes(warning when you click this link you will start craving a cupcake!) Both tired of the same old hangouts and craving a place to relax and be creative they founded The Shoppe. Great job girls, mission accomplished!

Fling it Girl checks out Composition

composition1.jpg

Fling it Girl took a little road trip west of Denver to the Belmar area to check out Composition and meet the owner Jennifer Roberts. Touting itself as “outfitting creatives since 2003″ Composition started as way for Jennifer to express her passion for design. Bottle openers made from recycled steel seat-belt claps to messenger bags made from recycled PVC banners are just some of the wide range of uniquely designed products found at her 2600 square foot joy of a shop. We even spotted earrings made from used mobile phone keypads. If you can’t make it to the store it’s OK, all of her products can be found online at ShopComposition.com. We featured one of Jennifer’s products on our Fling it Girl Network site Eco Fling. Composition is definitely Fling Worthy.
