So my idea for the bacon contest was a bust, it was complicated, poorly explained and just plain bad. I apologize, I have learned from it and we plan to come out with a couple of cool(simple) contests when we launch. Simple a lot of times is the best way to go! New contest to give away the highly hyped chocolate bacon. Starting NOW: the first 3 people to leave a comment on this post will win the chocolate bacon. Let’s see who has the fastest internet connection and who really loves checking out our blog:)

Tech Girls Just Want To Have Fun

I come home in the morning with a DS Lite
Thank you Nintendo my life is tight!
Oh yes dear we’re the fortunate ones
Tech Girls they want to have fun
Oh Tech Girls just want to have fun

I may be biased but I have to say the Boulder/Denver area has some stellar Tech Women! The women showed up this weekend as Gwen Bell hosted some rock star events. Friday night was the Nintendo DS Lite party that was held at a sweet loft space in Denver called The Strategy Loft. It was awesome kicking it with tech girls while we tested out some games, including my favorites Guitar Hero and Mario Kart. It was an amazing evening that even included me getting in a intense bubble-gum chewing contest with Beta Girl Sam Harms. The highlight was at the end of the evening when we all received a DS Lite! How is that for a party favor!?!? Saturday morning was the Big Event for BWET(Boulder Women Engaging Tech) where we heard two inspiring women, Tara Anderson of Lijit and Laura Mayes of Kirtsy, speak on there experience in the “Tech” world. The second part of the session was Glam Your Gadgets led by Aimee Oelke. It was a fun weekend to be a girl in tech! If you are a rock star tech girl in the area and want to get involved BWET meets at 7PM every Monday night at The Cup. See you there! Oh and if any of you girls want to meet up for a competition of Mario Kart–it’s ON!

Meet Beverly an artist who gives jewelrymaking a good name. It has been almost exactly a year since she launched her online website Charmedseed Jewelry. Beverly creates quality jewelry and believes it does not have to be over-priced to compliment current fashion. Her jewelry has a classic, vintage flair that I love. My favorite is her wordspell signature line. Beverly also enjoys sewing and even has a custom costuming service. We are excited we found her as we love supporting local artists, welcome to our Beta Club!

Do it for the Bacon!

bacon-box1.jpg

NEW CONTEST! Bacon and chocolate go together like…OK so it doesn’t sound convincing, but trust me, Flingrs are raving about it. It is one of Luca Chocolate’s top sellers at the moment and you have to admit it sounds enticing. So much so we decided it would make for a great prize for our next contest. The grand prize winner receives The Big Bacon Box(16 pieces of chocolate covered bacon, 8 bacon caramels, and 4 bourbon and black pepper truffles) and the 2nd and 3rd place finishers receive a regular Bacon Box.

How to Play: Beta Girls/Dudes bribe as many of your friends/co-workers/family/strangers to join Fling it Girl. To make sure it is legit they not only have to join, they have to submit a product for you to get credit. Once they do this they need to send us an email telling us their username and your name so we know who gets credit. Whoever gets the most people signed up gets to enjoy bacon chocolate bliss!

***Contest starts now and runs until Monday July 7th at Midnight (MTN)***

eConscious Market: Giving. It’s The New Getting.

posted June 23rd, 2008 at 2:00 pm by Kary

econciousmarket-logo1.png

Some companies like to talk the talk. eConscious Market actually walks the walk. You hear a lot of about companies who claim they are the greenest of green but in reality it is hard to know if what they are providing is really making a difference. Most pledge what they are doing is helping the planet while they tend to forget about the people. It was refreshing to discover eConscious Market and see that there is a company out there vying to influence change. Mathew Gerson who founded eConscious Market happens to live in Boulder. We had the chance to sit down with him, his passion is undeniable and he has created an innovated way to make a real difference. His goal is to transform commerce into a philanthropic enterprise.

eConcsious Market purchases ecologically and socially responsible products and sells them at or below the suggested retail price. They know the greenest purchase you can make is none at all, so this next part is not to promote guilt-free over consumption rather it is to provide you with responsible options when you do need to purchase something. They donate 10% of all retail purchases to the charity of your choice. This transforms the act of buying from an individual gain into one that benefits the community. Giving. It’s the New Getting. That is their motto and if you ask me it sounds really good.

To give you a sneak peak at the action going on in our Fling it Girl beta/alpha trial I will periodically be featuring some of the Top Flings. One of the most voted on submissions has been from Eric Wu. Now if you know Eric he is a jeans aficionado. He submitted the women’s denim section at Revolve Clothing. He dubbed them the Zappos of women’s denim as they have a huge selection and free shipping both ways. Now that is good to know, great Fling Up Eric!

We wanted to be dramatic and bring you the winner by video but we had technical difficulties. Thanks to all who participated in the contest!

This Beta Girl has taste! Meet self proclaimed food snob Emily Olson of Foodzie. Emily was a chemistry turned communications major at Virginia Tech. But ultimately her love for food took over. Emily began witnessing so many small food producers who were struggling to get their specialty foods on shelves. This is where her idea for Foodzie came about. She started Foodzie with two of her friends, now they are all in Boulder participating in TechStars. Here they will be fine-tuning their startup before unleashing it to the world.
