This Beta Girl has taste! Meet self proclaimed food snob Emily Olson of Foodzie. Emily was a chemistry turned communications major at Virginia Tech. But ultimately her love for food took over. Emily began witnessing so many small food producers who were struggling to get their specialty foods on shelves. This is where her idea for Foodzie came about. She started Foodzie with two of her friends, now they are all in Boulder participating in TechStars. Here they will be fine-tuning their startup before unleashing it to the world.
Our newest Beta Girl is Emily McDonnell, who is Fuser’s Community Advocate. LaLaFuFu wins the padded underwear contest, with a line that made us laugh the loudest. All were very funny and creative. We appreciate everyone taking part in this poll.
Everyone recommended that we check out The Shoppe, Denver’s first boutique Pastry Cafe. It lived up to the hype with it’s sweet vibe and off the chain cupcakes. It is a great place to chill, they have free Wi-Fi or you can thumb through one of their art & design books, drink coffee, watch old-school cartoons + artsy flix, listen to live music, play board games, enjoy a nice cold bowl of cereal and tasty cupcake for lunch or at 2 A.M. They also have Cheetah Couriers Bike Messengers to make deliveries, very cool!
The Shoppe was started by Tran, co-owner of The Fabric Lab (which features handmade items crafted by local designers) and pastry chef Emma Skala owner of Emma Rose Cakes(warning when you click this link you will start craving a cupcake!) Both tired of the same old hangouts and craving a place to relax and be creative they founded The Shoppe. Great job girls, mission accomplished!
Give me an A, give me a N, give me a…ah forget it. Friends just say hello to startup junkie Andrew Hyde, the freshest Beta Dude. Why do we call him a startup junkie? Well, Andrew is the co-founder of Venture Capital Wear (a t-shirt company that started as a joke), founder of Startup Weekend (a 54 hour event that builds communities, companies and projects all over the world), currently in charge of developing a community at TechStars, and a couple of other projects that are in ultra secret mode. Not enough startup stuff? Then check out his blog, where he shares his thoughts about startups, communities, and coffee. We are excited to have him check out our start-up in its early stage. Thanks and welcome to the party pal!
Disclaimer: I participated in Startup Weekend, have VC Wear t-shirts (around $400 worth), and love what TechStars is doing.

Check out all their collections that range from Halo to Japanese influenced art. We instantly fell in love with them. Hey who wouldn’t trust their files with Luke Skywalker (the Force will be with your data always) or with Meletta, as long as you don’t ask her how she got that monkey on her head. Our friends over at Mimoco graciously gave us 6 mimobots to give away when we launch. Stay tuned as we will roll out details soon on how to win these cute data storing bots!
Inhabitants embrace the man and the legend Micah Baldwin as our newest Beta Dude. Micah (pronounced meeha) is currently the VP of Business Development at Lijit and author of the Learn To Duck the learn to duck blog. If you are craving a blog with substance, then you gotta check out his blog where you will uncover some serious advice about the hard knocks of life and the start up life. Quoting Micah, “To get, one must give, and trust that the gift is compelling enough to have the other give in return.” We here at Fling it Girl are quickly learning how vital it is to grasp and apply this principle. We can’t wait for his feedback.
Disclaimer: We use Lijit, like Lijit, and recommend Lijit.
